".....But it looks dangerous," you say. Not really. In fact a recent survey by the Ministry of Roads, Transport, Infrastructure and Other Gray Things showed that fully 85 percent of the taxi drivers polled said they were NOT trying to run down foreigners on bicycles.

homicidal drivers

Postby cliffy » Tue Oct 29, 2002 10:13 pm

Ultra, the report states the taxi drivers " SAID" that they were not TRYING to run down Foreigners, not that they didn't actualy do it  .

As an EX coach driver in a tourist city the stories I could tell...... if only the lawers had a life, I mean a sense of humour 8O

Insurance??? Surely the guy had insurance!! there is also the option of having him charged.

The laws in Japan favour the smaller party in an accident - ie the cyclist vs the car, the pedestrian vs anything. The "Larger" party is always considered at fault. Actually there are quite a few people that regularly "take a dive" to extort money. But in your case it is valid.

If your school didn't want you to push it - did they at least offer to take up the difference with your medical bills?

I guess the statue of limitations has expired for your case so you have no recourse. But as a taxpayer, you have the same rights as everybody else.

Bicycling is very harmless I think.

I cycle around Tokyo a lot and it's not the cars that scare me so much as the other cyclists!

I wish people would use lights at night! (so i wouldn't have to yell at them all the time)

Add to that Light-out Problem the fact that everyone wears black in Tokyo in the winter at night, and I am amazed that I haven't run over anyone yet.

I don't care if your naked, but please WEAR SOMETHING REFLECTIVE!

vroom

Postby gomichild » Wed Dec 04, 2002 12:48 pm

Yeah it's true - and fun hooning round on a motorbike! I'm going to take my 50cc license soon (bad point is the test is in Nihongo *sigh*)

Although it's true that if you can find backstreets that run vaguely parallel to where you want to go - they are definately the ones to take. You'll need to experiment a bit though.

YEAH! And the key point is 50cc is dirt cheap in terms of taxes, gas, etc as well as low-profile with the police. I've driven a 50cc through a shopping mall and cops didn't even look up from their porno manga :-D

There are some wickedly k-cool, retro VESPA clones on the Japanese market right now below 99,000yen!.

What? You couldn't understand my japanese? I'm so shocked! I was trying, in my lame way, to say "Tonight I'll dream I'm a bicyle seat." which refers back to those "oh so fine" naked girls on the bikes in the post.

maybe:

boku wa jitensha no seta yomimiru desu

Sorry

How about this for the translation

Postby Gaisaradatsuraku! » Fri Dec 06, 2002 12:39 pm

Try this instead.

Tonight I will dream I am Gaisaradatsuraku's bicyle seat = Konban boku wa Gaisaradatsuraku no "jidensha no sadoru" ni natta yume o miru. Totemo tanoshimi ni shite imasu!

I think the above is pretty close.

Any comments about using....."jidensha no sadoru ni henshin shita yume o....." as an alternative??? Maybe this one is better. Anyway, becoming my bicycle seat for a day is about as sweet as it gets. Nice translation request!
