Share your Tokyo stories

Some friends and I are on a new literary website about Tokyo to be launched May 1st.

The site is called Hitotoki (Japanese for "moment" or "time")

It'll be a collection of personal stories from outsiders who have passed through Tokyo, or people still living here.
Stories of specific moments at specific locations in Tokyo, that defined at least part of what Tokyo means to you.

The primary goal is good reading (so be nice), but we're also hoping that travelers and residents use the site to find new points of interest.

The requirements:
* 200-500 words
* a location
* an accompanying image if you got one

We're launching on May 1st, making the first submission deadline April 23rd,

If you've been to Tokyo and are interested in writing, here's the submission form (2kb .zip with .txt file inside)

logo design footnote:
For Non-Japanese speakers, the outer shape of each stamp is the Japanese phonetic equivelent of what's written in English.
We carved these from stone, here stamped on a kleenex.

Nice logo.

Just out of interest, is this a commercial project?

I'm just being facetious, but that just about sums up most FGs I know here.
Sorry:D

Some of my Tokyo stories have been well-documented on this forum.

Not really. We should have made that clearer.
Just a hobby project from 3 webdesigners/publishers who enjoy Tokyo.
As we say in the submission file, we may one day choose to publish some of those stories in a nicely bound book, but will contact all authors when we do so to ask for authorization etc... Stories remain the author's property.
I guess it's like a blog, just a bit more fancy.

Tokyo stories?

Postby Greji » Sat Apr 14, 2007 3:28 pm

I've been in Tokyo damn near all day now and haven't run into a story yet, but I'll keep watching for one.

Launched!

Postby burikkoboy2 » Thu May 03, 2007 11:49 pm

We're happy to announce that hitotoki.org has launched.

www.hitotoki.org

_
Thanks to everyone who submitted their hitotoki.

The response was surprising and encouraging, allowing us to launch
with a handful of stories covering a wide range of the city: from
Mister Donuts in Senzoku, to a land-fill-park in Koto-ku, to a sailor-
uniformed girl's back-alley badminton romp in Dogenzaka. If you
weren't included in this first batch, don't fret! We'll be parceling
out many of the other stories over the next few weeks.

_
The site will be updated regularly.
Get the latest hitotoki stories delivered to you by subscribing to
our rss feed:
hitotoki.org/tokyo/feed/

_
Send us your hitotoki!

We hope this first installment inspires some of you who may have
wanted to send something in but didn't quite know how it was going to
fit. The submissions form is, as always, here:
hitotoki.org/hitotoki_submission.rtf

Thanks again for all of your support.
Paul.
