Lloyds is the easiest way. GoLloyds

Flat rate that is cheaper than the banks. Lose a few points on the exchange rate but not too shabby. Service is excellent.

First question: Is there a limit on the amount?

Probably not on the sending side, but there will be paperwork involved on the receiving side to receive such a large sum all at once. For example if you receive more that US$50,000 in Japan you have to visit your branch and fill out some forms explaining what the money is for. If you receive two wires for $25k each you don't need to do this. In the US the limit is $10k I believe, but I am not sure what the limits and requirements are for the UK.

Second question: What's the best way to send around 2000 man overseas?

GoLloyds would usually be my suggestion, but the way you send money to them to remit overseas (via domestic transfer from an ATM) is not workable for such a large amount. You also need to pre-register the places you want to send money to and they send you a furikomi book. If this is a one-off thing that will be a PITA.

I'd talk to Shinsei about it and probably to Citibank. You'll want to check both to see what sort of exchange rate each will offer, as well as talk to the receiving bank. A half percentage point rate difference is a lot of money when the total involved is 2000man. Depending on the rate you may want to send in yen or send in pounds...

Sorry to bring this up, but is registration required to use GoLloyd's? Or is there a way can we just hop on down to Akasaka, show our passports, transfer the money and be done with it?

It's not like we have 2000 man to remit, but UFJ to Europe is still rape no matter how you look at it.

You need to register with them for anti-money laundering reasons. Takes a day or so. Go to their link above and sign up. It is free to sign-up. The cost is about 2,000 yen a transfer.

usually you just transfer via ATM into the lloyds account they set up for you that is immediately sent to the bank account in the UK that you nominated on your registration.
