Anyone go through Shinjuku Eki at rush hour?

If anyone goes through Shinjuku station, particularly the kabukicho gate, i need to ask a favor.... if you have a digicam that records video, i need a quick 30-60 second 360 degree shot panning that huge gate, showing all the ticket machines, the gates, the 1000 people per minute flowing through, and a top off showing the cafe or whatever little shops they have down there next to the gate.

2. a platform shot of people boarding a busy train like the yamanote; i need something emphasizing how people line up in queue and how fast the 6-door cattle wagons can load and unload.

for that extra mile, it would awesome if you could also do a first person clip while you go through the gate yourself with a suica, giving an upclose of how smooth the gates operate.

volunteers will be profusely credited. if required, maybe some sort of compensation could also be offered, but not much.

this is part of a project for New York's MTA to gain some insight on improvements to the nyc trains, particularly focusing on how open the stations are in tokyo, how efficiently the gates operate, and how kiosks, cafes, and other small shops can really brighten up the environment inside the station.

Do you work for the MTA? MTA officials should personally visit Japan and other countries with better public transit systems to get ideas for improving the system. It seems odd that someone from MTA would post on this board to get someone to take video for them. Maybe you work for the Straphangers campaign?

No, I do not work for MTA. I would pour gas on myself and light a match if i did. I work for a consulting firm offering free advice to MTA. Because MTA is run by monkeys with the intelligence and vision of a stone wall. They cannot be convinced it is first worth paying us cash to re-develop their systems when they cannot even comprehend the volume and scheduling of tokyo's train system. it's like telling them the world is round. seriously. they have no concept of it, much less be convinced to shell out the small cash for a few plane tickets based on words alone.

i would've taken the video myself while i was there a few weeks back had known this was going to come.

Don't knock working for the MTA - at least you would get those wonderful union benefits the MTA went on strike for last year! [/sarcasm]

Seriously, I think the Tokyo system would be a great model for NYC. the subway system in Bangkok, which just opened recently, is also beautiful and would be great to have in NYC. But where are they going to find the money to pull it off? They're so far behind in all of their capital improvement projects, it would be a miracle.

No kidding? I'm impressed. You think there would be enough money to convert NYC subway stations to look like that?
