Amami Oshima, anyone been?

I am planning on taking the 13 hour ferry from Okinawa to Amami in a few weeks. I was wondering if anyone on here has been to Amami. I've yet to meet anyone that has.

Nah, haven't been there sorry. But I'm interested in why you chose that particular place - anything special to do or see there?
Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

Well I am not really sure. There's always the Amami rabbit. It is part of the Ryukyu island chain, and there is a boat that goes there directly from the Tomari port in Okinawa. So I can go there for a weekend for around $200. It also seems like a destination that most Japanese and Gaijin don't go so I will get the rock star treatment!
