The list seems too simple. Many gaijin don't fit into a single category on the list but are blends of several categories.

Common factor of the list's gaijins are that they regard Japan as their rehabilitation facility.

What else could Japan possibly be good for?

The women are prettier and not as poisoned by western thinking. Ready access to Japanese history/art is a plus, and (if it's your thing) there's plenty of anime to watch.

I'm not sure what the definition of a "Nigel" is (i hope it's not a racial term), but Captain Japan and I were once accosted by some sort of bad-teethed brit near NHK Hall and that guy surely deserved his own category. What a piece of work this guy was, eh Captain? He kind of looked like he could have been a Nigel.

Or maybe a Rick:

I think you got it backwards, Take. If all Japanese had a foreigner who would act as their rehabilitation facility, there might be fewer Japanese people running amok with knives...or at least they'd move up to guns, or something.

i think almost all the gaijin i see on the street or on trains are kinda like "my japans" except they act like I dont exist, they never make eyecontact with me and certainly never strikeup a conversation. Most of them are tourists i realize but I see a bunch that are obviously fgs even in my little city. im not expecting a hug and kiss but we`re the minority now and a quick "right on, brother" might be nice every now and then.

I do the head nod regularly, if they look like they are a 5%er.

It's pretty much standard practise out here in Fukuoka to nod or acknowledge the other gaijin as you walk past. The feeling of brotherhood is extremely palatable.

wtf is wrong with kansai/hyogo gaijin? yesterday i passed an old dude on the way into 711, i got my fist ready to raise in salute but after brief eyecontact he looked quickly away. frozen in my tracks fist now limp in disenchantment i watched him climb into an alphard full of creamy kids and drive into the shimmering haze of a summer afternoon.

This reminds me of an earlier poll/thread:

I have a lot more opportunity to meet foreigners around here because of the US base. I always nod and say hi to the guys. Not the women. They tend to keep to themselves, which I understand. As far as they know I'm just another military person walking around. But when I get to Tokyo, there is a totaly different feeling. It is more like someone said, "my Japan" and don't mess with me. Speaking of Tokyo, can anyone recommend a good cheap hotel. Nothing fancy, I'm not a civil servant who can afford Y52000 per night, all I want is something clean and fairly convenient. Say around Y6000 per night.

As Canman said, the Kanto gaijin are pretty awful when it comes to bortherly recognition. Living for so long in Fukuoka, I can't help but give a passing nod to them whenever I'm visiting, but it usually ends in heartbreak and disappointment. Come on guys, we're not looking to be your newest, bestest buddy, just a tip of the hat to say "I see you and I know what it's like".
