What's your favourite hotel in Osaka? Interesting design, comfort, more important than the cost.

The Westin, though a bit out of the way or the Hilton, convenient and located in a mall. Favourite is Westin.

I haven't stayed at many in Osaka, because I live there, but I would say the Teikoku (Imperial) hotel would be one of the best. The location is a little out of the way, not being right in Umeda or Namba, but it's by the Okawa (river) so the views are mostly nice. The foyer was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, if memory serves. Most recently we stayed there for our wedding anniversary and had one of the rooms on the imperial floor (where you need a pass key for the elevator to go to that floor). I could not have asked for a nicer room. Very very tastefully decorated.

I had a nice stay at the new otani a little way back. It is not in the most happening area of town (it is sandwiched between a large office park of what seemed mostly Panasonic related businesses and osaka castle park), but it was reasonably quiet and many rooms have a good view of osaka castle and it is close to both the JR loop line and a subway station. My room was huge and was quite reasonably priced. My room was pretty plush as well. But the surrounding area is a pretty much a ghost town at night, but I didn't mind that

Only use the Ritz for both office and private trips. Located central and nice. The furniture is not ugly. Cyka thinks anything that doesn't revolve and vibrate is hopelessly out of fashion!

you're right, the furniture there isn't ugly...if you're as old as dirt (YOU, G!!!) and have a fetish for your grandmother's drapery.

the ritz is lovely, really. the bar on the 5th floor is fantastic. we're just into things a bit more modern and edgy on the design front. but as we were discussing last night, other than ryokans, japanese hotels are about function only. i think PHT in tokyo might be the one exception, although i've heard the pennisula is pretty nice.

i wouldn't put anyone into a toyoko inn ever! i stayed in one in tokyo once and it was miserable!

I stayed at the Ritz once and didn't like it. Too much dark furniture and dark carpet. That Ritz property would be a nice hotel in London.

I usually stay at the Westin because I like the remoteness of it. The garden around the hotel, the restaurants in the basement of the Umeda Sky building, and the buffet breakfast in the hotel. I enjoy the long walk in the tunnel under the railway tracks to the shopping area of Umeda and the hotel has a free shuttle bus to Osaka station.

See this is something that I just don't understand about hotels. When I go somewhere and stay at a hotel, it is merely for sleeping, showering, or forincatory purposes. Thus, I really don't care if the carpet matches the drapes and whether the duvet is silk or pewter for that matter. I'm out of town, hence I want to spend as much time playing in a different area, as possible.
The only reason to stay in the room is if someone left an AV movie card with time left on it, but let's keep the pixels to a minimum shall we, I'd like to really believe penetration is occurring, y'know what I mean folks?
Back on track. For me, coming back from a "vacation" more exhausted than when I left means that I had a good time. If I came back and the bags under my eyes had miraculously receded, then clearly, the vacation sucked dick, as I couldn't find any girl who would.
Toyoko Inn is fine...just had lunch at the Four Seasons on Sunday....desserts were good, everything else I ate was BORING...no impact...shit...someone let me slap the chef with a bowl of kuro goma ramen....that's flavor, baby...and it is another topic for another time.
