I gotta a couple Nigerians that might be interested.....
Good Evening.
Moderator Glen Gladcock here.
Glen Gladcock: (Moderator)
I have been entrusted with the very, very, very exciting task of assembling a Japanese Immigration Procedure Guide in order to familiarize you newbies with what is involved in Coming To Japan.
Coming To Japan is not for everyone because Japan is not a Theme Park. Please bear in mind at all times that Japan is not a Theme Park. Life is not a party. It is a duty. Please be on duty at all times! Just like an Immigration Officer!
Upon landing in Japan you need to be ready to be processed by Japanese Immigration. I have been processed by Japanese Immigration. I have been in Japan for a very, very long time. Almost 3 years.
Japan is not a Theme Park and your documentation will need to be in order. This includes your visa which, incidentally, I already have. I have a Visa. I have a Permanent Residents Visa.
"Visa?"
"Check! Visa!"
My wife and I have this exchange every morning as I depart for work. I teach at a University.
"This way please" the sign says.
"This way to Immigration and Customs".
Please have your passport ready ("check") and also your Visa Documentation ready ("check").
A Japanese Customs Official will be stationed behind a desk (identical to the one pictured above) ready to inspect your documentation. Please prepare throughly beforehand for this encounter by procuring a desk identical to the one pictured above in order to "role play" practice for the situation.
"Papers, please."
"Here you are, Sir."
My wife (Japanese) and I still rehearse this exchange after all these years in Japan (three years) just to keep up to speed with the immigratory parlance and vernacular. I play the part of the immigration officer and grill my wife with a number of taxing questions. Sometimes she is moved to tears but I press on with my questions. I side with immigration.
Upon reaching the Customs Officers desk, please have your documentation in order. I have my documentation in order. At all times. I have a Permanent Residents Visa. I also have a Temporary Visa for my pet turnip. His name is "Glenski".
If your documentation is in order (my documentation is in order. At all times. I keep triplicate copies of each Official Immigration Document on file with each and every one of the 652 ward offices in Hokkaido. "Better to be safe than sorry". Japan is a safety-first country) you will receive a stamp in your passport. But it won't be a Permanent Residents stamp (the biggest one pictured above. The very, very biggest one). Only experienced Teachers (I teach at a University) can receive the Permanent Residents stamp. Not you.
Incorrect documentation is a crime under Japanese law. I side with immigration. If your documentation is in any way in breach of Correct Form, you will be ***DENIED ACCESS*** to Japan and led away from Japan by a Japanese Immigration Official. You will hopefully be enchained in either the SK-03, SK-02, HC-03B, HC-03, HC-01RB, HC-05, HC-06, HC-01N, HC-02N, GBH100, GBH300 or GBH200 handcuffs.
This is my jacket that I wear every day in winter. My wife playfully attached the "Immigration" panel to the back. I immediately reported her to the appropriate authorities. I side with immigration. My wife was levied a hefty fine and deported to Burma. She tearfully begged her bedridden parents in Japan to pay the massive fine, they obliged and sold their house to raise the money. My wife is back in Japan now but I keep the panel on the jacket as a daily reminder to her that Japan is NOT a Theme Park.
