Hi guys, been a while huh?!
I left Japan late last year and moved back to England where I got a job working for a TV company...blah blah blah...theyre now looking into making a show about Japanese food especially sushi...basically a cookery show for Brits.
I was keen to get involved for obvious reasons...
Its in research stages at the minute and I just wondered if any of you off the top of your heads knew any good films/books/webpages that give interesting facts or history about sushi.
At the moment its going from a food angle but Id like to focus more on cultural aspects too, what the Japanese think about sushi becoming more westernised (the infamous california role). I have my own opinions of course but you guys have been in Japan a lot longer than I was and hopefully your ancient years have borne wisdom...
The thing I most want to avoid is exactley what was happening in the first meeting where people were saying 'Look this is Japanese food isnt it?' and showing pictures of 'Japanese' cuising designed by Chinese people in England.
'Authentic Japanese food' and then soba noodles in a pork sauce with battered fish and chips on top. Yeah nice one.
Sorry I know requests like this dont always get looked on favourably but Im not Canadian nor playing guitar.
