Stockholm News: Sushi restaurants and cafés may serve alcohol next year
New legislation next year will make more restaurants able to apply for permission to sell alcohol. Today, a restaurant or café need to offer their costumers to buy warm food in order to get permission to sell alcohol. This has been considered discrimination against, for example, salad bars or sushi restaurants that only serve cold food. The exact definitions in the new legislations are not clear yet, for example whether or not it shall be enough to serve sandwiches. The new legislation will be in place from the summer of 2010 but it will take some time for the municipalities to go through all new applications that are expected writes the daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter.
Actually, a lot of sushi restaurants in Sweden serve alcohol because they usually have hot items like grilled fish or tempura on the menu as well. There are some casual places like Depå Sushi and Coffee which don't seem to have any booze.
