The upcoming economic collaspe

Postby Ketou » Wed May 12, 2010 12:02 pm

With many people speaking openly of major economic collapse in the coming months/years, I am wondering what everyone thoughts and/or preparations will be.
Japan's debt burden is now at 201% of GDP with rising unemployment and a government doing the worst thing possible to get out of the doldrums....spending more money. Of course this money is further debt and a dangerous increase in the money supply. America is in the same situation with voices such as Ron Paul, Peter Schiff, Gerald Celente etc all saying a major depression is inevitable. These guys aren't talking about a bad recession but a major shit fight with hyperinflation, massive unemployment, social unrest, starvation, war.....the real deal.

My thoughts are it doesn't fucking matter because there's nothing I can do to stop it. I'll just try to enjoy the ride.

Option 1 - Head for the hills and live off the land. Seems to becoming a popular alternative for some these days. I know of a few couples who have gone to Hokaido and bought ridiculously cheap land.

Option 2 - My option. Go home and live off the unemployment benefit until it all blows over.

What are your thought?
First thought: who the hell is this fucking Gordon Gecko-wannabe machinegunning his talking points at Mr. Schiff wasting everybody's time?

Second thought: The Western world is past its prime. I look forward to more economic infighting, as in the US making further attempts to destroy the economies of its allies. With this I mean the whole Toyota accelerator pedal bullshit destroying the world's largest automaker's reputation for a large number of US consumers, and US credt rating agencies downgrading Greece and hinting at downgrading Portugal at the same time, sending the Euro into a tailspin while conveniently overlooking the equally dire debt situation in the US itself and the UK.

The era of full-on economic warfare has begun. I look forward to hyper-inflation.

We are on an island with no natural ressources... At least we might not have to fear foreign invasion and I don't think it would be too difficult to go back to self suficiency for food. When the shit hit the fan just lie back and think of england...

Meanwhile... as usual with it's huge forrest/farmland efficient waterways, railways and electric nukular powerplants, France is certainly fucked...

On another viewpoint... the actual financial world... just plain don't exist... money don't exist, it's what governement decide they print, it's bits and bobs of smoke on computer screens... It's not like running out of drinking water or crops to feed populations. If the system collapse on a world scale... the only thing that might get fucked is the system itself... The moment it stopped being backed by gold all became some kind of overgrown roleplaying game...

Japan has serious debt problems, compounded by the population issues and a stagnant economy. It still boggles my mind that the JPY is stronger than the USD but I guess the reduced outflows of capital from Japan are propping it up for now.

That said, the situation here is not as dire as some of the chicken littles out there like to shout. There are a couple of reasons for this:

1) Somewhere close to half of the outstanding debt is held by the government itself -- lending between ministries and similar deals. It's quite an odd situation.

2) 50% death taxes. All those old fuckers who have money in the bank and insurance companies that has been used to buy gov't bonds are rapidly heading for the crematorium. That inevitable crematorium trip costs them 50% of their total assets -- land, house, and of course any savings. This will negate 50% to 80% (or more in some cases no doubt) of whatever government bonds might have been bought with their savings.

Japan still needs to get their shit together but I don't think there will be a debt implosion here any time soon.

What the hell is 'The Daily Intelligence' anyways? Reading a couple of their other articles did little to convince me that they have anything worth taking note of. No, I don't buy that the world is going into economic collaspe anymore than I believe that committing suicide during the appearance of the Hale-Bopp comet will sweep you away to heaven.

Interesting guys....seems we have the full spectrum of opinions.
If the USA goes into depression I would think its impact will hit most Western countries too....quite likely Japan also. And if it goes like Paul, Schiff etc are saying there won't be any social insurance and paper money will be worthless. So there will be no hunkering down till it's over.
For those who think nothing will happen...how does a Reserve Banking system fiat currency combined with Fractional Reserve Banking stay afloat? All new created money is debt that adds to inflation.

Some of us... are trying to have this considered as a crime against mankind...

When you got Sarkozy as a president... you end up missing the times when you were an enslaved farmer living in poverty under the tyranny of a King... At least this guy was trying to keep the Kingdom afloat to pass on his son... Not just trying to look good on camera for a maximum of 2 x 5 year terms...

I'm interested to know what what points in the vid were incorrect and why.
(I'm not advocating for the video but am interested in both sides of the issue)

I think one of the brainfart which is of the most offensive again human intelligence is the passage aboot breastfeeding right.

The author goes on describing a new law obliging companies to have dedicated breastfeeding rest space.
Then say this law is too much because companies would be glad to provide it by themselves without need for a law.

Then you realise that breastfeeding is not exactly a novelty...
And wonder why for such an old practice, if companies are so happy to provide boobie space, why didn't they already do it...
Then you understand that they didn't...
And that might be why a law was required...
And you facepalm while waiting for the next smoking gun... to facepalm again...

There's also some passage where statement are absolutely true... (nearly at the level of water being wet) but are used to carry a message that is barely linked... There is really not much honesty in the video... It's 'truther' level stuff. (were any point raised even if it might have had a little chance of being valid... is buried into so much bullshit rationalisation that you just wish you never heard it) The scheme goes like:
Attack on the Pentagone was an inside job.
Because it's a missile that hit the building.
And it's a missile because the gas station dude say it didn't look like a plane.
Problem being... when you've been around plane... you realise they are much smaller than people think they are. Just look at a picture of a big rig beside any commercial plane... So without even considering anything toward the event, you already know that the first element of analysis is totally flawed...
