Non-Emergency Calls

Postby Mulboyne » Thu Feb 10, 2011 4:33 pm

The Post Seven website (Japanese) has some details of the trifling reasons some people have for phoning the emergency services 110 number. This kind of thing happens in most countries but the local press have been reporting a rising number of cases in Japan. Here are a few examples from their report:

"This vending machine hasn't given back any change"

"My windscreen has fogged up. Can I borrow some de-misting spray?"

"I'm on snow-covered roads. What's the right way to drive on them?"

"I've rented a DVD but it's a blu-ray and I can't watch it."

"I'm in a gyudon joint and there's no meat in my gyudon."

"I'm in a queue for petrol but nothing's moving. Can you do something about the guys in front?"

"I just bought an air conditioner but the room doesn't cool down when I switch it on."

"I've just eaten instant ramen and now my teeth hurt and I can't brush them."
