Okay stop the war!! I just found out...

Postby Gaisaradatsuraku! » Wed Mar 26, 2003 4:11 pm

Okay stop the war. I just found out that incredibly there may be some US companies that may profit from the arm's buidup and the rebuilding of Iraq. This clearly must mean that the war is unjust and that it is only being fought because this small group of insiders has collectively hoodwinked the President, the entire House of Representatives the Senate AND 70 percent of the US people. How diabolical. Thanks to you folks here I have come to realize the folly of this war. How insightful.

Of course there are going to be some who profit from this horror. This does not mean that they are pulling the strings or that there is some collective dodge being pulled. The war needs to be judged on its own merits/demerits. We realize the folly of negotiating with a dictator. Europe never has understood this. Due to their constant fucking up America was forced to intervene in two World Wars and assist in the maintenance of Israel (which is a colony whose population soared as a result of the holocaust and the general inability of the Europeans to just accept Jews).

You know I am proud to be a tobacco spitting American. At least we have better manners in the things that count.

Uh, nope not me. I have been involved in Japan all my life so I really don't get any kick out of the Japan through foreigners eyes stuff.

My family left Japan years and years ago (well my grandfather did). He really didn't have much good to say about it. He got himself out as soon as he could and never looked back although he did a lot of work for all the major Japanese textile companies that came to the US soon after the war ended.

Exactly. But you don't see me posting any "funny, strange Japan" stuff like Taro.

I never post any responses to that stuff either. Doesn't interest me. I find that I spend most of my time here disagreeing with the take of people like Jack and whoever on their distorted views. Why am I here is a question I often ask myself.

But you know what is really bizarre.

Postby Gaisaradatsuraku! » Thu Mar 27, 2003 12:45 am

It is bizarre that people focus on what US companies will be doing in Iraq after the war as some indication that this is all part of some master plan but pretty much ignore the fact that Iraq's leading trading partners AND arm's merchants (i.e., FRANCE, Russia and Germany) are opposing the war for economic reasons. That's OK though.

Bizarre. This is why we need a more charismatic President with morals. We now have a President with goals and are getting pilloried for lack of style whereas as several years ago we had a President with all kinds of style and adored by all the foreign idiots. Unfortunately that Porky was asleep at the switch while his country was being infiltrated and he fiddled while Rome burned abroad. I can't recall a President who did less in the field of foreign relations than Billy Bob. I can't think of a President he appeared as unconcerned as that man. Where is our next leader coming from. I hope to God that Colin Powell runs. He needs to serve.

Hey, I brought that up a week or so ago, in another thread. Can't remember which one though.. Something about current oil contracts between France/China/Russia and Saddam being torn up if Saddam is ousted.. The REAL reason for the European peace movement.
Gaisaradatsuraku! wrote:I can't recall a President who did less in the field of foreign relations than Billy Bob.

Bush Jr's doin' a bang up job! I think Billy Bob would've gotten more global support for this war.. The Axis of Evil comment would've been behind closed doors, not at the State of the Union.. I really don't give a shit if he was also getting a blower behind those same closed doors.. I'm surprised you're so hung up on the this 'morals' thing with the way you talk.
Gaisaradatsuraku! wrote:I hope to God that Colin Powell runs. He needs to serve.

I agree 100% with you on this, but I don't think he's a campainer.. He doesn't want his family under the microscope. He likes to be appointed to positions. Now if Bush is offed, and Cheney finally keels over, isn't Powell up next? There's our wish come true!

Powell could have run for President in the past, but didn't. I think he said once that he will never seek the presidency.

He is a wise man.

He would have the shortest term of office of any president in history because some crazy racist would off him at his first public appearance.
THAT's why he never ran, and never will.

Gai,

Soon you will realize how useless this war is. No reason for it. I have never been more proud of my government who stood firm and refused to get suckered into a war not worth fighting. I am glad that it boosts your ego to show off the latest American weapons and that reporters are accompanying your troops into the trenches. Good for you. We have none of that high tech gadgets and damn proud of it.

From what I remember, Powell's wife had a problem with depression, and he didn't want to drag his family through the public scrutiny. :?:

Powell is a truely sensible guy and perhaps too smart to be president.

But OA you bring up an interesting point re a racially motivated assassination.. pardon my ignorance about US race relations, but would this be a serious threat? But would middle america vote a non-white into the white house in the first place (pun was unintentional)

Further more - what about a non-male - eg a former First Lady?

I think Powell could win in a landslide. Only the most wild rascists would have an issue with this guy. He is polished, has a military background (going to be more important than ever in the coming decade) and is by all accounts honest/moral.

this guy should be president but it does only take a handful of jokers. Hell, he could get shot by some black rascist too. Harry Belafonte, the senile crooner, had the gall to call Colin Powell and Uncle Tom. Harry needs to remove head from anus on this one. It was a disgraceful comment but probably is how many blacks feel.

A female president is I think decades away. It could happen however. Frankly the only reason Colin looks good is because everyone else looks so damned bad. We should have 10 men/women like Colin trying for office. Instead we have probably none. I really hope Powell puts his country first and takes the leadership role that he seems very uniquely able to fill. I would love to have a black President in office as we go forward and deal with the Israel problem.

I wouldn't care at all about Powell's military background. In fact, I don't think a military background makes a president any better than one with a civilian background. Military credentials, however, do impress the right wing, Southerners, and other pro-establishment types, so it would help him get a lot of votes from right of center. He would also get a sizable minority vote. I bet some Republicans would not vote for him because he might come across as too liberal on some of their pet issues like abortion and affirmative action.

Here would be a cool matchup for President: Colin Powell versus John McCain. Wow, talk about battle of the independents.

If Powell were to run, he is too smart to run as an independent.

Independents get the shaft and never get invited to national debates.

Then again....since he is Colin Powell, he just MIGHT get invited.
