Travelling to Shanghai and back visa-free

Postby Cyka UchuuJin » Fri Oct 24, 2014 4:39 pm

So apparently China now has a 72 hour Transit visa exception for 51 countries, but you have to be travelling to a third country. I am meant to go to Shanghai from Japan for 36 hours, but the route will be Japan-China-Japan.

Has anyone gone over to Shanghai and back to Japan under this exemption?

I doubt you'll be able to board the plane in Japan without a Chinese visa.

Try this: Japan-China-Japan-China-Japan, 5 countries there, they'll have the red carpet out for you...

That was my thought as well. Think I'll play it safe and get the visa.

The rules specifically exclude this - the exemption is TWOV (transit without visa).

Funnily enough this seems like the kind of question that would lead to a smackdown from Cyka.

The OP question was positively Gaijinpot worthy. I think we'll put it down to brain farts.

Yeah, it would and should. This is why Cyka is moving back to Japan, because 4 years in Europe has drained her of common sense.

Losing your edge, eh? We may have to stop calling you Cyka and up with something more cuddly.

Rolling pin? I realize you're a size queen but that's a bit excessive.
