Real men may not need to shave or bathe but if France has proved anything it's that being smelly and hairy doesn't necessarily mean you're manly.

Fixed.
The Japanese government said Tuesday that Mitsubishi Motors Corp. overstated mileage on its vehicles by up to 16 percent, but stopped short of slapping further penalties on the company.
.....
Mitsubishi Motors said last week that it will give 100,000 yen ($960) to each Japanese owner of a car with a false mileage claim to compensate for the extra gas costs and for inflating the mileage figure.

I wonder if they would dare refuse any henpin requests...

So why the big scandal now, surely this applies to every car and motorcycle on the road.

I really don't get this. It is common knowledge you do not get the mileage claimed on the spec sheet. I've ridden numerous motorcycles & driven many cars and have always know it was a myth. My little Honda XR250 claims a fuel consumption of 40k/l at 60kph with the disclaimer that this is under test conditions and may vary according to road conditions etc, ie, you know and the maker knows this number is bullshit.

Those tests are what are required by regulators so it's not as simple as companies lying for marketing purposes.
Samurai_Jerk wrote:No you don't get it. But that's ok because you seldom do.
Russell wrote:All good and well, but my STPWGN gets the mileage claimed by Honda if I drive carefully.
Then again, the claimed numbers are not very good to begin with.
legion wrote:Does that mean it is actually possible to get 40k/l out of my bike? I get around 27 when I am in the countryside with little traffic, and few junctions.

Throttle crazy a bit much? That's waaay too far off. Either the way you ride or something is wrong with the bike....
My rebadged opel minivan is rated at 11km/l by the J-gov. Even with 160,000km on it, I'm getting 12-14km/l with iridium plugs, regular maintenance, and smooth driving.
