apartment searchin in kyoto, any advice?

hey guys, i just sorta stumbled onto your website forum, anyway:

I'm gonna be moving to kyoto in about a a month, and i hav to do some apartment searching.. i'd like a place sumwhere around shimogyo ku or nakagyo ku, somewhere in the area...

is there any trouble spots i should look out for?

and anyone with any sort of advice on renting or searching for apartments / mansions in japan, i'd really welcome your advice.
