Is Fuckedgaijin.com infested with raging porn trolls?

Just thought I'd ask, since IMHO the quality of posts has slowly deteriorated over the last year.

Maybe you should've made the poll "Who's your favorite FG porn troll?" since there've been so many polls recently. :)

Nah, but something a little more intelligent than "Dude! This JChick is HOT!!!! [posted pix of Japanese idols]" or "I love the anime! I wish she was real so I could date her".

Maybe I'm just wishing Steve would post some more good stuff, or Ultra would come back and post more often.

Hey Steve, since you are a Byte reader, have you tried any Pentium-M systems? I recently got a Dell Latitude D400, and it's a very nice machine. Very quiet, and always cool.

sfunny you should mention that I was planning on getting a D800 for Chisato round about Xmas.

Is the On/OFF still inside, top center like on the C600/800. I want to be able to attach a large LCD and keep the lid closed. Can't do that with the C series.

So much for that theory about "first and last letter" for recognizing words.

The power switch is on the top of the laptop, so yes, it's inside. I'm pretty sure you can alter the power management settings to do nothing when the laptop lid is closed and the power cable is connected, but I haven't tried it myself.

I thought FG had only been around for just over a year?!

Is this thread an attempt to subtly say 'I'm holier than thou' and to define oneself as FG royalty who is 'displeased' with the antics of the commoners?

Gai stopped screaming at the trolls. Gai stopped screaming at everyone and now its hard to get a good long debate rolling. He had an insane willingness to stick to his guns and find supporting arguements for even the most deranged viewpoint. And I think a few of his better opponents either flew away, or post a lot less now.

Its sad.

Well, can't you boys go trade porn over Kazaa or something?

It's been around since April 2002, so yes, just over a year. Guess I should have said, "over the past six months".

You can split FG.com history into two parts: pre-<name deleted> and post-<name deleted>. Even after <name deleted> was banished, his troll musings and misogynist posts have lingered, slowly devolving into our present FG.com where we have polls about having sex with junior high school girls, who's your favorite Japanese idol, etc...

Pre-<name deleted>, we had a substantial number of female posters who actually lived in Japan; post-<name deleted> we have a good portion of our posters living abroad, not in Japan, mostly male, single, perverted and proud to post about it.

CS, start crackin the whip. I may be cutting my own head off here, but this is F*cked GAIJIN, not f'd wanna be's. Lets push back towards a place where people can talk about expericnces, current events(everywhere), Japan news and experinces, etc. I would not be offended if the topics about sex were dropped. I would draw the line at stopping all discussion though. People will naturally talk about sex and flirt with each other at times, and should be able to do so in the normal course of posting, but actual topics like the ones mentioned cross a boundary. "Who's the sexiest J-girl?" WTF? No one jumped on this as either sexist or racist, and that too is sad, as just a few months ago a large number of posters would have flamed that poster so bad he'd either run like hell or actually rethink his personal opinions.

Seriously, though, I think FG went through some lows but it has improved greatly since certain policemen came to power  And the fact that Gai hasn't been flaming people can only be a positive.

There's two reasons for this: the drama with <name deleted> was too much trouble for a number of our previous posters. Not only did that guy live in Oregon, making periodic trips to Japan on Daddy's dime, but he was a rapid-fire poster using multiple identities and consistantly poor grammar and punctuation.

Also, the last time GG got tangled up with one of our one-handed posters, she got shouted down for being judgmental. Same kind of thing you hear from NAMBLA supporters.

Well, I gotta say, I thought it was good that you had to apply and then be approved to post on this board. (i signed up during the "no guest" era) I thought it was something special to be accepted cause it took over a week before I got an e-mail registration reply!  Oh well, maybe its for the better. But trading whore-stories and crap is getting old. I too would like to see the backside of that topic.

That was quite helpful to get a historical perspective on FG, I had read back quite a way and knew about the 'turning point'. I didn't know there used to more female posters! That is interesting.

Because there aren't many today, it seems amazing-just like if you tell people there used to be lions in Europe a long time ago, people are amazed because it seems so unlikely in today's context.

This place still is pretty pure compared to practically all other Japan related boards though. I think Taro and others posting about news items keeps things adult.

PS: Not that long ago, Japslapper posted about him finding something in the countryside on a hike. I was recently looking for that thread, but it has dissapeared. He was going to update us. Taro said to be careful. Good advice, but I want to know what has happened. :?:

That is a very good point in that once the initial rush of other FGs sharing common experiences is over, there has to be something to sustain interest. That's one of the reasons why Taro has to keep posting news stories, to give people something to talk about.

There also has to be allowance for some diversity-tiers. While some want to discuss tech news, politics or current events/earthquakes, other will want to discuss other things too. Not everyone who picks up a newspaper reads every section. For example, I read the politics and current events, but not the sports. Others will just read the sports pages and cartoons. Others might just read the fashion pages. FG has already got a division of forum areas, eg the Ghetto. It could have more... but it needs to appeal to many to keep it interesting for many. Unless people want an exclusive boutique issues board? Something to think about.

I like all kinds of topics. I think the sexuality of Japanese people is a very interesting and valid topic. But also, I tried to make informative posts with links and pics on oter topics and they barely get any hits. Tina's idea about the countryside is a good example. Potentially a great thread but hardly anyone contributed or even hit it. And it's exactly the kind of useful thread that could really lift up this site.

Here's another one on Japanese literature. Great topic but not nearly as popular as 'Most Hated Poster' or 'Sexy J-Girl'. I think they're all fine subjects. Some are stupid but that's ok. It's strikes me as odd, considering the name of this website, how conservative some of the members are. Conversation is always cyclical to some degree. If you want better threads contribute to the good ideas.

I think it is a very pessmistic outlook.. honestly, those posts seem to draw a lot of attention.. I think a forum needs variety, especially a gaijin centered one.. To have endless conversation about intellectual topics would make this place a bore, and I would have certainly not stuck around as long as I have. I tend to ignore the inane and grotesque postings.. I suggest you do the same if you are offended... eventually the sex trolls will disperse and normal conversation can continue.

There are many members here with very interesting postings.. Taro and Steve are two of the best topic posters IMHO, and Gomi and Gai are two of the most interesting responders..

I agree with Assking though, there have been a few posts of worth in recent weeks. But there have been quite a few "wasted" postings.. but somehow some way these "useless" posts draw a lot of attention and responses.. perhaps that is why they are so prevalent.. not too sure.

But he also lives in NY and is kinda busy. But he isn't as bad as he was when he first started.

I think the concerns are overblown. There is a lot of good information on this forum. I have bought many books on the recommendation of people and while many posters, myself included, do not live in Japan, I really enjoy getting the foreigners' point of view who live in Japan.

As to comments regarding J-chicks, I personally have some fun with it and if you look beyond the kiss-and-tell ellement, I often describe behaviours of J-chicks that some people may find interesting. Some people may not like it but let's face it, J-chicks have a behaviour pattern that is completely different from what we are used to in the west and is worth talking about it.

You need a balance of serious talk and trash talk without being malicious to have fun. So with all due respect, I disagree that this forum has deteriorated and in fact may have become more interesting.

Just my worthless opinion

I'm with you CS on the change. I looked on the memberlist and I'm # 15- most of the other early ones aren't around anymore. It is too bad, but I feel things are moving in a better direction than when trolls invaded a few months ago. I've taken some of my more intellectual posts to japantoday.com, as the replies are often high-quality- folks who have a real interest in Japan. Of course, FG is the best for random, bizarre shit.

So keep on posting interesting questions- the news section is a great place to start. Maybe there will even be female posters someday.
