Seeing as how I have a Japanese girlfriend, thought I might share a bit.

I've asked my girlfriend many times why she likes gaijin, and it all comes back to the attitude of gaijin men vs. nihonjin men. She tells me that us FGs are generally have a more positive outlook, are more caring, and treat them better. Of course I'm sure there are some nice J-guys out there (somewhere), and there are some real assholes in the gaijin crowd, as well, so this is in no way a blanket statement. I'm just relaying what my girlfriend, and some of her friends, have told me about their experiences with the different "varieties" of men in Japan.

As for gaijin women and nihonjin guys, I really don't know. To tell you the truth when I see a FG girl and FN guy, I never know what to think. I don't know anyone in this kind of relationship. Seems to be rarer than FG guys and FN girls.

I don't know about a "hierarchy". If there is one, nobody told me about it.

As for people of non-european descent, it seems just as easy to get into a relationship (serious or otherwise).

It's strange, I don't really have a lot of nihonjin friends. I'm friendly with all my gf's firends, and I've met some of their guy friends, but I wouldn't just kick it with any of them if I were by myself.

I am not sure what attracts her to gaijin as much as I know what attracts her to me.....I dont feel Japanese women (or men for that matter) are an alien creature as much as a human being. Therefore, I feel that each Japanese woman are different because all people are different. Each human has their own tastes.....

If you are talking about physical attraction....maybe she liked my blue eyes and deep voice? Maybe she likes that I am 6 foot 1 inch tall? But I can think you can certainly generalize that japanese women tend to be one way and British women tend to be another because indeed culture does play a huge role in how we act and what we do, though you are definitely spot on, that the each human is unique in their own way.

When I have the occasional heart-to-heart talk with my young engineers about their love-life, I am always shocked by their terminal shyness with women.
