I've been living in Okinawa for about a year and a half now and have yet gone up to see the mainland(except for a brief stay in Kansai airport on the way here). I've been planning on taking some time off to go up north to see the sights and have some fun... maybe sometime around Golden Week 2004. However, I've been told this may not be such a good idea, as GW is a time when most of the locals LEAVE Tokyo.
Is there any truth to this? Will I find Tokyo to be a baren wasteland if I spend Golden Week there, or will I be able to go around and enjoy the nightlife, sites, etc?
Thanks for your time.
