Exchange students

Postby dakota » Wed Jun 09, 2004 5:21 am

Hello everyone, I have a question to ask of you. Me and my family have come to the decision to host a Japanese exchange student this coming school year, but we can't decide whether to host a student for a semester or the whole school year. If you were in my shoes, which would you choose?

Do a whole year, a semester isn't long enough, it's more like an extended stay in a hotel. To really get to know them, warts and all, you need a whole school term.

My advice - get a girl
Make sure she is not from Tokyo, central Japan is best
The older she is the better, she will be more responsble and you will rest easier. 17-18 is perfect.
Don't expect (and I'm sure you don't) some asian sterotype. What you get is basacally a Valley girl with bad fashion sense who can't speak english.

Those kids will write a profile on themselves and include pictures, the profile is total BS. You have to read between the lines, what they wrote, and what they left out. You have to judge from the tone of the pictures. get a good one and it's very rewarding, get a bad one and you are in for a year of hell.
