Which place is cooler to live???

Postby sumyunguy » Sun Jun 27, 2004 10:27 pm

Hi all

I'll be touching down in Japan soon (osaka) and I've been given an option of two apartments. Of course, I have no idea what these two places are like so I was hoping someone could shed some light on the matter for me....

Option 1
in Sumiyoshi, very small one room apt for 48,000 plus utilities

Option 2
in Juso, 1DK apt, rent is 70,000 plus utilities

Both are furnished.

I'm assuming both to be quite small, I'm more curious about the different areas. bars? restaraunts? shopping? girls? parks?

Any insight into this matter would be greatly appreciated!

Canada.

(Sorry, I'm no help since I live in hotter than Satan's rectum Tokyo. I got sick from the heat yesterday. I can only read a "place is cooler to live" as somewhere else than Japan. 40,000yen/m sounds real cheap, maybe too cheap.)

Sumiyoshi is near the ocean. Juso is near Umeda (shopping area). Go see the apartments if possible. Check to see if they are near a train station.. if so you'll have an instant and free alarm clock.

:D

I'd go with the more expensive one if you plan to spend a lot of time at home. If not, and you'd only use the place to sleep, then I'd go with the sardine can mansion.

yeah, I thought that 48,000 was sort of too low. I don't know if seeing them is a possibility. I actually didn't even think about that possibility. I think I'm going to go more expensive though, fuck it. Both places are 'a 2-3 minute walk' from their respective train stations (sumiyoshi = nakai , juso = juso hankyu station) Don't know if that means I'll hear them or not. Guess I'll have to get used to it. Or never go to sleep.

The first shopping word I learned coming to Japan: Mimisen(earplugs).

I don't know anything about Sumiyoshi, but I do know a little bit about Juso, as I used to hit Fandango, a live house there, quite often.

The good points: It is one stop away from Osaka station. It has quite a few good greasy-spoon restaurants and the aforementioned Fandango is there (great if you like noisy rock). :)

The bad points: Juso is the Kabukicho of Osaka, which is to say that there is a major SLEAZE factor. Chock full of hand-job bars and 'soaplands' and yakuza-esque hangouts (don't get excited, you, as a Fucked Gaijin, will probably be turned away at the door  ). Also pretty dirty in parts.

Yeah, try to check out both apartments before making any decisions. Big Booger is probably right about getting the more expensive, more convenient one in Juso, especially if you're going to stay for awhile. If you like drinking, partying and music until late, Juso might be the best bet.
There is nothing more noble than impassioned nonsense.
