Party Time in Greek restaurants tonight

Greece win Euro 2004
Greece pulled off one of the biggest shocks in football history to beat Portugal in the Euro 2004 final.

Trafalgar Square in London was a huge celebration after this result. I reckon Japan's Greek restaurants will be having a bit of a knees-up tonight too. The Portuguese might be a bit quiet (as the English were when they beat us). Oh, and the Turkish restaurants might be a bit interesting.

Melbourne being the biggest Greek city outside of Greece has gone bonkers

Via The AGE

THE AGE wrote:Thousands of Greek soccer fans in central Melbourne have erupted in wild celebrations after Greece's win in the European soccer championship early this morning.

Flares and fireworks filled the air and fans danced in the street embracing each other and chanting "Hellas, Hellas", (Greece, Greece) after the 1-0 win over Portugal.

The crowd of least 10,000 converged on Lonsdale Street in the early hours of the morning, many draped in Greece's blue and white flag

I've been to The Aegean (it's on Meiji dori, not far from Shibuya Station South Exit - just down from the Belgian beer bar "Belgo") which has good food although the owner clearly enjoys being "a character". That can get a bit wearing or a lot of fun depending on your mood. Best to go when you are feeling sociable. Probably a laugh tonight. The interior is getting a bit worn around the edges.
Decamaron used to be one of two Greek restaurants in Kabukicho but I think the other closed. Nice interior, lots of aubergines and moussaka but not very Greece.
Spyro's is new and I only read about it in Metropolis
Review Here. Food sounds good.
Never been to the Yokohama place.

If you really wanna get greeked, there is a vile Greek place on the way to the Roppongi Gas Panic. Be sure to go there if you wanna pay a 5,000yen min. "table charge" to watch a demented Japanese owner yell at his Greek slave boys to dance "higher".

Otherwise the Aegean in Shibuya will suit you fine. Saronikos, Yokohama set me back 10,000 per person the last time I went (I suppose that was for the live music and dance).

Haven't heard too many good things about Greek food in Tokyo, but have heard Saronikos in Yokohama is good.

The after drink souvlaki place in Roppongi near GP would only be good if already tanked. Not cheap, very average food.

Bring on the Tsipouro!

Hey, thanks guys!

Sounds like it's either the Agean, or on a splurge night, possibly Saronikos..

I'll refer to this thread the next time I'm craving that Grecian formula..

How about Iran?
Zakuro in Nippori has good food to a level you can't finish, all you can eat and drink for 3000 yen and lots of hookas to finish the night.

Thanks for the tip!
Seems authentic enough, i could do with fattening up with some euro food, ive lost 20 pounds in 3 months, on the Yoshinoya and Sushi, and i was in shape to begin with. Im begining to look North Korean. Oh well
Seems more Turkish Cypriot than Greek, but, ill give it a go.

Do you think that weed would work in a hooka?
That would be a scene, man

Bong Bar Sheesha in Roppongi.
Web Site under construction but you get the idea. Their annoying habit of playing J-pop on occasion undermines the middle-eastern feel somewhat.

TV Tokyo just did a piece on Greek restaurants in Tokyo - the main focus was Spyros which is the newest/trendiest place.
But because of the Oympics, it seems that most hotels will be running a "Greek Cooking Special Event" so look out for those. The Hotel Laforet in Shinagawa has one but it doesn't look so cheap even though the food looks good.
My bet is that you'll see some good tabehodai Greek deals in the Royal Park (Hakozaki); several Yokohama places and probably a few regional hotels too. Enjoy.
