TIJ TV

Postby samuraiwig » Mon Aug 16, 2004 10:43 pm

Before I launch into my probably all too predictable assault on the TV coverage of the Olympics let me say that I am (happily  ) not Japanese, American or a softball fan.

That said, why the hell did the Japan vs. US softball game, which was nicely poised at 0-0, get booted in favour of the start of a women's volleyball game which Japan were always likely to lose?!?! :shake:

And an even bigger poser than that...I was watching with a bunch of J friends and none of them was in the least pissed off. They just looked at the clock and said "The volleyball is scheduled to start now."

As for seeing any sports not involving a J athlete or interest... I think I'll join Kamome in throwing the TV out the window and surfing results somewhere vaguely informative.

My only consolation was that Japan got spanked in both the softball and the volleyball - let the zannen deshitas and schadenfreude begin.

TI indeed J :wall:

Volleyball has skimpier uniforms and more bouncin' boobies than softball does.

Next question. :D

Surely you're confused, Mr. Saint

Maybe you're thinking of beach volleyball...

There sure as hell ain't no bouncin' boobies on any Japanese volleyball players.

Other NHK BS channels continued to run the softball game (as well as other sat/cable channels), but yes Japanese TV does that all the time for games. Oddly, in the Japan vs. US softball game, it looked like it was going to run on scoreless 0-0 forever.

BS

Postby samuraiwig » Mon Aug 16, 2004 10:59 pm

Sadly I don't have any BS channels. Am stuck with the bs on terrestrial channels. :?

Yeah, it did look like staying at 0-0, but that is precisely why it was getting interesting to watch - some tension had built up and someone had to do something good/fuck up in order for the game to be won or lost.

Anyway, roll on the track and field. I figure they can't ignore a whole week of competition despite there being only 2-3 genuine Japanese contenders, can they...? 8O

I'm noticing that in the U.S. coverage, they are doing the same thing.

Not as much, but they are.

and the assinine patriotic comments are getting on my last one.

I was glad that the Japanese swimmer won gold over the American.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.
