Here's one: chiwawa, can you post a picture of yourself? "We foreigners" like to screen for hot-looking Japanese teachers and all of us have received several offers for lessons. Thanks. :D

Thanks Chiwawa!

I have a question. Recently I've wanted to say the most----in my life but I don't know how. How do I say for example, "That was the most powerful storm I ever saw in my whole life."? Or "2004 was the hottest summer of my whole life." ?

Putting aside Chiawawa's demonstrations of nuance, there are more basic facts about shimau that need to be mastered by beginners, before you can get to the subtleties. According to my teachers, shimau has two basic uses.

1. V shimau; you did V, completely.
2. V shimau; you did V, unfortunately.

So if you "biru o nonde shimau" that means you drank all the beer.
If you "dokuyaku o nonde shimau" means that unfortunately you drank poison.

So sometimes you have to determine the meaning of shimau by context, as in this example where the verbs are the same. Additional nuance may be supplied per Chiwawa's examples. As always, please correct me if my understanding is incorrect.

But in the first case isn't this SHIMAU as in, "Finish off the beer" and the regret being that, there is not going to be any more beer? But the poison example more like, "unfortunately drank poison"?
So actually, aren't both of these examples also expressing regret thus this being the negative form?

I have a question.

My next door neighbor is really rude to me. When ever I make a "little" noise he bangs on my wall. I've tried talking to him and asking him to quit. But maybe I'm being too polite.

My question is, what's really rude way of telling someone to stop hitting the wall.
