PDN: Japan tabloid apologizes over Guam comments
A representative of Nikkan Gendai...has visited the Guam Visitors Bureau office in Tokyo and apologized for misinformation the newspaper printed on June 22...The article, titled "Popularity falls badly for Guam and Saipan," states that Guam "lacks high-grade hotels, and the local food tastes awful. And Japan domestic air tickets have come down to the level where it's possible to visit Okinawa for the same price, with no language barrier."...Deputy General Manager Tsutomu Ito said reporters responsible for the article never came to Guam and wrote their article after interviewing four people, two travel writers, a travel sales agent and a bridal agent...Guam will receive $25,000 worth of free publicity which will be published in the tabloid later this month or early September.
