Japan to mull 0.1% cut in annual income for national gov't workersTOKYO, Aug. 15 KYODO
The government was asked Monday to cut the basic annual income for national government workers in the year through next March by 0.1 percent or 4,000 yen from the previous year, according to recommendations by the National Personnel Authority.
In its annual report, the authority also recommended a drastic reform in the payment system for public servants, the first such move in 48 years, it said. The main purpose is to correct the situation where government employees receive higher payment than private-sector workers, especially outside big cities.
The Cabinet and Diet received the set of recommendations for fiscal 2005 which refer to a 0.36 percent or 1,389 yen cut in basic monthly pay and an increase in annual bonuses ... to 4.45 months' worth....more....
