Slasher attacks Tokyo train commuters' bottoms

Two people had their buttocks slashed on heavily congested JR Shinjuku Station platforms in downtown Tokyo shortly after midnight on Saturday, police said.

Neither of the two victims is in a serious condition. Local police suspect that the same person is responsible for both cases, and are searching for the culprit.

At around midnight, a man suddenly felt pain in his buttocks after getting off a Chuo Line train bound for Takao from Tokyo onto Platform No. 10 at Shinjuku Station, investigators said. He noticed that he was bleeding from his behind and reported the incident at a police box near the station.

About 10 minutes later, a woman waiting for a Yamanote Line train on Platform No. 13 also had her bottom slashed. They received treatment at a nearby hospital.

The two victims have told investigators that they did not recognize who slashed them because the platforms were jam packed.

A station worker said he saw the woman after the incident through a surveillance camera. "The woman was lying on the platform until paramedics rushed to the scene. Other passengers who surrounded her appeared worried about the incident," he said. (Mainichi)
