As measured by total assets. Japanese banks swept to the top during the bubble and were only overhauled later the big bank mergers in the US and Europe. This measure puts them back on top.

You could rank banks by RoE, net profits, market capitalization and come up with different lists. Totel assets always gets the headlines, though. It's not news that there is a big pool of savings in Japan. One of the biggest problems for Japanese banks is that there has been no demand for loans so those assets aren't being put to work.

Perhaps that will help Japan rise again after the
next big recession in the States, which is bound to happen
after the housing bubble pops and all these crazy loans start
to catch up to the borrowers.

Why are they not ready yet and the fuckin ATM has to be shut down every weekend? I am getting pissed at their service. Why can't I get my OWN money out when I need it?

Because your savings means (less than) nothing to the bank. Putting money in the bank is actually an inconvenience to the bank and costs the bank money. Therefore they don't give a flying fuck if this part of their customer base is happy or not.

I still think Mitsushitty is worse than all the other banks combined.
UFJ was open 24/7 and now Mitsushitty destroyed it.

At least Mizuho is open till 9pm at most places so I might switch to them soon.

These downtimes are related to the merger, not a change from the 24/7. That said, the 24/7 might change...who knows.
