In November, a Japanese news agency reported from Pyongyang that Jenkins had turned down an invitation to come to Japan because he feared arrest by the United States. The report also said Jenkins had been hospitalized due to emotional trauma....
Hyman also believes his uncle [Jenkins] did not defect, but that North Korea kidnapped him.
"We may never know everything he has gone through," Hyman said. "We don't know what kind of brainwashing he's gone through."
