Japanese company Risk Control has begun selling a US-made skyscraper parachute kit on Rakuten. To be used if you are over ten floors up in the event of a serious earthquake or terrorist attack. Or also, perhaps, if you are worried your building's architect skimped on a few key safety features. Good luck getting a window open. See also the Evacuchute Site

Judging by the video on the manufacturer's site, this should work great at all those J skyscrapers with 125mx75m lawns at the front

Why use a chute? Everyone claims the jump is sensational and the fall is excitement at its best. However, I must admit that I didn't hear many laudatory comments about the sudden stop at the bottom.
