Koizumi's English Problems

A question in Japan's parliament on Wednesday peppered with English financial terms had Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi warning a lawmaker to mind his language.

"Who understands (English) words like 'compliance' and 'governance'?" Koizumi asked the embarrassed oppositi...

I agree with him. The overuse of English terms in Japanese politics makes it difficult for lay people to understand their own government.

The venerable Hamachan when he was still speaker, once chewed out a legislator for using too much English in his presentation saying:"This is Japan, speak Japanese!".

After he retired and started appearing on the talk show that he still appears on, somebody told him that it was a splendid for him to ensure that the common layman could understand what they were saying in the diet. Hamachan is only Hamachan, he immediately replied to the effect that "I wasn't thinking about the common layman, I said that because I had no idea what the hell he was talking about!"
