JAPAN beckons for a Bridlington actress who is in her first year of studying drama and English at Hull University. Claire Emmott, of Midway Avenue, is one of ten students who were selected to perform Chikamastu Monzaemon's 18th century play Tsuzumi-Drumbeats Over The Horikawa. Claire, 19, was the only first year student to be selected, and going to Japan will be the furthest she has travelled. She said: "It is something I'm looking forward to and it will be a great experience, but I am a bit nervous." It is a traditional Japanese play which examines the consequences of adultery among the samurai class and, as a result of strict social codes, there is murder and suicide....Claire's parents, Fred and Valerie, will not be going out to Japan to watch their daughter, but they did go along to watch the production at the university. Claire said it was really nice because it also happened to be her mum's birthday.
