The Japanese:ホ]There were about 20 people on the train platform, but most were senior citizens, who could only just peer at the track.

This craze seems to be catching on . . .

Japanese man rescues woman after fall onto subway tracks in Taipei

TAIPEI -- A Japanese man rescued a Taiwanese woman who plunged onto a subway track at a station here late last week, a local newspaper reported Sunday.

A train that was approaching the station managed to stop before entering the station. The father of the woman has told the daily that he wants to meet the Japanese man to express gratitude to him.

At around 11 p.m. on Friday, a 30-year-old office worker felt dizzy and plunged from the platform at a subway station onto the track, the Sunday issue of the Apple Daily reported.

A young Japanese man and a friend of the woman jumped onto the track and rescued her. The woman suffered slight wounds to her face and hands.

The station master who was monitoring the platform on the surveillance camera noticed the incident and pressed an emergency stop button, forcing an incoming train to stop only 80 meters before where the woman had plunged.

The daily reported that if the station master had pressed the emergency button five seconds later, the train would have continued on into the station.

The Apple Daily story about the incident headlined, "Courageous Japanese man saves woman who plunges onto track," did not identify the man. (Mainichi)

Hmmm, "getting dizzy" late on a Friday night = . . . ? Image
