Kyodo via Yahoo: U.S. soldier questioned at Narita airport for possessing 50 bullets
Japanese police questioned a U.S. Army soldier based in South Korea in late June for possessing 50 bullets on a United Airlines plane that arrived at Narita airport, east of Tokyo, from Los Angeles, investigative sources said Tuesday. The police seized the bullets and questioned the 23-year-old man on a voluntary basis along with the Narita Airport Customs for two days after his arrival June 26...The soldier, who was on a transit at Narita airport on his way back to duty in South Korea from a leave in the United States, told the investigators the bullets were for shooting training in the United States but were unused, they said. He said he just forgot that the bullets were in his bag, they said. The police do not believe the man intentionally hid the bullets, according to the sources. The police will investigate how he got through security so as to bring the bullets onto the airplane at Los Angeles airport, they said.
