Bullets In Transit

Postby Mulboyne » Wed Jul 05, 2006 8:36 am

Kyodo via Yahoo: U.S. soldier questioned at Narita airport for possessing 50 bullets
Japanese police questioned a U.S. Army soldier based in South Korea in late June for possessing 50 bullets on a United Airlines plane that arrived at Narita airport, east of Tokyo, from Los Angeles, investigative sources said Tuesday. The police seized the bullets and questioned the 23-year-old man on a voluntary basis along with the Narita Airport Customs for two days after his arrival June 26...The soldier, who was on a transit at Narita airport on his way back to duty in South Korea from a leave in the United States, told the investigators the bullets were for shooting training in the United States but were unused, they said. He said he just forgot that the bullets were in his bag, they said. The police do not believe the man intentionally hid the bullets, according to the sources. The police will investigate how he got through security so as to bring the bullets onto the airplane at Los Angeles airport, they said.

Considering he didn't have a firearm to use with them with, I guess he could have thrown them really hard at someone and caused them to cry over having a booboo. Naughty naughty. :roll3:

Considering he had bullets, he had a high value item. The Yaks pay big money for ammo as well as firearms. A firearm is no fun unless you have some thing to put in it that goes bang. Then you have changed your weapon which before was no different than a model toy, into a real attention getter! Yaks will buy any brand of ammunition (this is a bit contrary to the people who point out Japan's wonderful gun control laws), because they have access to any major weaponry available in the small arms to semi-automatic categories.

Well that's silly. If you have a few cartridges to start with, you can always hand-load them after firing. Just remember to pick up your brass, and you've got a lifetime supply of ammo.

Charles, you have a very good point for the good old US of A and elsewhere.

Try buying the loading equipment powder, etc., here in Japan. The NPA and TMPD require everything from the length of your johnson to your wife's diaphram size.

Yaks do not easily quailify. Silly as you may think, ammunition remains a high demand item even in small amounts.

That's ridiculous. Even a precocious 9 year old can cast lead and make their own gunpowder. I know this for a fact because I was a precocious 9 year old.

What's rediculous Charles? The fact that Japanese Police monitor all that sort of thing? Or that Yaks will not do as you and the rest of the 9-Y-0's, make gunpowder and cast lead.

First of all. Chinpiras are allergic to manual labor and cannot copy your fine skills even if they want to do so, secondly, you must be living in a world that never exposed you to these people in Japan. Cause neither do they think like you, not would they apply your logic. If they want something like that, they buy it.

All I'm saying is that it isn't that difficult. Demand creates supply, if people were willing to pay huge prices for bullets, somebody would fill that demand. I can only assume that the yaks don't really want bullets that badly. With a shortage of bullets, they can just tell their intended victim "I would shoot you but bullets are too expensive."

There are plenty of examples in Japanese consumer behaviour where cheaper substitutes do not overwhelm expensive goods. They usually involve image, status, perceptions of reliability etc. The Yakuza are probably no different. If money was tight and there was a gang war breaking out then there might be a change of opinion.

Sounds like the Chris Rock comedy bit "what if bullets cost $5,000".
