GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- A woman has been charged with taking nearly $3 million from her Japanese employer.
Brenda C. Rivard, 47, of Greenville was arrested Saturday. She faces eight charges of breach of trust with fraudulent intent and two counts of financial transaction card fraud, deputies say.
Rivard started taking money from Lube USA in 1998. The thefts continued until last year totaling approximately $2.9 million, according to arrest warrants.
Rivard was the chief financial officer at the Japanese-owned company. Her duties included writing checks and balancing bank accounts, deputies said.
Rivard wrote checks to herself from the company's accounts, prosecutors said. (AP) . . . more
