Khon2: Ties to Yakuza bust lead to wrongful imprisonment
A visiting Japanese citizen was released from jail today without charges, after being locked up for almost two weeks. She's part of a family that helped U.S. officials prosecute top Japanese mobsters two decades ago. Former Japanese TV talk show host Chiaki Morisu was glad to reach a Waikiki hotel after sharing space with inmates...Almost two weeks ago, Morisu was greeted at Honolulu airport and taken into custody on an arrest warrant from the state of Texas. More than a week later, the car rental company that had accused her of auto theft apologized and said it made a mistake in billing. But Morisu remained in jail. now immigration and customs enforcement was detaining her...Morisu's visit comes as her parents were exiting Hawaii, discouraged, after 21 years. Brought here by U.S. drug agents, they say they were forced to leave Japan. This, after their house in Kobe was used in an investigation of Japanese mobsters from the Yamaguchi Yakuza gang. Their son-in-law, Morisu's husband, worked undercover for U.S. agents in Japan, posing as a gangster selling rocket launchers.
