
British journal 'Nature' questions very unnatural death of Osaka Univ. scientist

The British scientific journal Nature has raised questions about the mysterious death of an Osaka University research assistant, who had pointed out that data in a thesis he co-authored may have been falsified.
The thesis was carried in the online edition of the Journal of Biological Chemistry in the United States in July. It was withdrawn on Aug. 2 due to doubts over the veracity of some of the data used. The 42-year-old research assistant was found dead in his laboratory in early September after apparently ingesting a poisonous chemical.
In an article in its Sept. 21 issue, the Nature magazine pointed out that Japanese universities are often slow to respond to wrongdoing and fail to ensure transparency....more....
