I just have to say, the CPK signature dish, the mesquite barbeque chicken pizza, is the best damn pizza I ever ate. I used to go to the very first CPK shop in LA quite often, and I always took my friends, who were always quite skeptical about such an oddity, but after tasting it, they always agreed it was the best damn pizza they ever ate.

I remember when I was in LA a couple years ago, I took an old girlfriend to CPK, she'd never been there before. I waxed lyrical about the virtues of the barbeque chicken pizza so she wanted to split a large one. I said that I could eat a whole one myself, and once she tasted it, she'd want a whole one for herself too (the large pizzas are disappointingly small). I deferred to her and just ordered a large one. Then when she was done with her half, of course she wanted more. So we had to order ANOTHER large pizza and wait for it AGAIN.

Once you have their special dish, you will never get enough. CPK makes mass-market frozen pizzas you can buy in grocery stores, but they don't even come close, you have to get it freshly barbequed over mesquite coals.

This might be the other extreme.

You've got to tell me just what the hell that pizza IS. It doesn't look like a CPK product, I even checked their menu and there's nothing that weird in there. About the weirdest thing they serve is the eggplant, corn and broccoli veggie pizza, or maybe the caramelized pear and gorgonzola pizza. De gustibus non est disputandum.

Looks like Shoga, shirataki and Maui Wowie sprinked on a regular pizza. If you don't feel like eating it, you can roll that baby and smoke it!

Those I would eat. But that...oy. That thing looks like a crime against pizza.

CPK is innocent of this crime. I found it a few months ago on a blog but neglected to keep the link.

I went the California Pizza Kitchen last Monday in the new upscale mall in in the semi-former industral slums of Kawasaki---LAZONA-Kawasaki plaza.
Aside from the fact that their 18cm(7-inch) BBQ Chicken Pizza cost 1,800 yen ($15 USD), it was quite good and they offered traditional Neapolitan pizza which were very respectible too. Go before they Japanize it with crappy cod roe, seaweed, and liters of fetid mayo.

Speaking of yummy chicken... Check out this EZ Catch Chicken Harvester,
