[floatr]Image[/floatr]Mainichi: Official from fake 'Mitsubishi' firm arrested for trademark violation
Two officials from a company that used Mitsubishi's name and trademark three-diamond symbol without permission have been arrested, police said. Mitsuo Aoki, 65, and another official from the Tokyo-based company "Mitsubishi Urban," which has since changed its name, were arrested on suspicion of violating the Trade Mark Law. Police suspect the company used the trademark when it collected about 40 million yen in funds from 26 customers. They have reportedly obtained a further arrest warrant for a person who managed the firm. Investigators accuse Mitsubishi Urban of sending pamphlets containing the three-diamond mark and the Chinese characters for "Mitsubishi," to six people, advertising investment programs...more...

Little known fact: Mitsubishi Pencil, which manufactures pens under the Uni-Ball brand name also uses the diamond logo and Mitsubishi name:

However, it is not a member of the keiretsu. The company has existed since 1887 and there is nothing the Mitsubishi group can do about it except get antsy on their web site:

"It often causes a lot of confusion owing to the same 'Mitsubishi' name, but Mitsubishi Pencil Co., Ltd. is not a part of the Mitsubishi companies. They have a completely different origin."
