An increase of outsiders

Postby Hokuto-shinken » Tue Mar 20, 2007 2:00 pm

Hello guys and girls,

Has anybody noticed an increase of tourists and workers from aboard residing in Japan? I feel in the last 5 years there are a lot more people coming to Japan. I don`t know if it is because it is easier to come to Japan now or if people have more interest in Japan.

Japan is becoming more and more Americanised, a lot of the younger generations are forgetting their roots and traditions.

Does anybody think Japan is on the change to a more multicultural society a new melting pot, or is there just a tourism boom and after a few years the amount of people wanting to work in Japan from aboard will settle or go on a decrease?

You must be joking. Japan is becoming more insular than ever under the extremely dangerous (Y)Abe naikaku.

I have to agree with Hokuto San, but would like to point to some possible reasons....

The Aichi expo presumably led to a wider interest in Japan abroad, as did the world cup.

Also, I believe that a year or two ago, the visa restrictions for places like the phillipines were relaxed a little, in an attempt to let more health care workers through to look after the ageing japan population.
Im not talking about the sex workers.

Also, the worlwide trend is seeing many people living in a country other than that in which they were born, see the EU for an example, although this has always been the case with developing countries to the big 8, it is now happening from developed countries to developed countries.

Anyway, the thoroughly rooted image of foreigners in japan will have to change if Japan is to become anything like a multinational country.

Plus the base fact, the longer you are here, the more foreigners you see.
