
MUNCIE -- When local officials toured Japan more than a week ago, they traveled with a new enticement to companies who might develop businesses in Delaware County: A multi-page brochure touting the area -- translated into Japanese. The idea might seem like a no-brainer, but officials said that besides being functional, the brochure was regarded as thoughtful by their Japanese hosts. "They were very appreciative we had taken the time to do our materials in Japanese," said Terry Murphy, vice president for economic development with the Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce. Mayor Dan Canan -- who went on the weeklong trip with Murphy and a few other local officials -- agreed. "I don't think they were surprised, but they certainly seemed to appreciate it," Canan said.
