Doesn't this just sum it up for a Japanese intellectual:

The majority of the Japanese people, while detesting Hussein, seem to consider the war devoid of a cause and not supported by the international community at large. The Japanese -- like many other nations -- judge Hussein as presently incapable of attacking America; therefore, U.S. action is unjustifiable.

To sum up: "There's a bad guy that kills his own people, but since the rest of the world sits on its hands, we should too"

So, what is a just war? When a majority of non-permanent members of the U.N. security council says it's okay to kill civilians? When there are no natural resources to bribe veto-bearing members of the council?

Those are great points.

It's kind of funny to me seeing the Japanese protest something they probably know very little about. Peace, at ANY price is really foolish to me. What world do they live in? Oh, the one with Tiffany jewelry suffocating their necks, Heavy Prada bags dangling from high school girls, and another country's military 'oppressing' it.. Golly, losing a war to the States sounds pretty good to me.

Actually, if they don't find any WMD in Iraq, I'm gonna be pissed!

That's exactly it. I respect people's prerogative to disagree, but the Japanese seem to be reacting yet again from their typically narrow, uninformed perspective. It's as if they want to be seen protesting because they think maybe it's the more fashionable position.
