From Part-Timer to Shacho

Postby Mulboyne » Sat May 20, 2006 12:17 am

[floatl]Image[/floatl]Following the lead of Daiei and Sanyo, second-hand goods chain Book Off has just appointed a woman, Mayumi Hashimoto, as their new head. The most remarkable part of her story is that she began working for the company as a part-timer for 600 yen an hour when they opened their first store. She says she wanted some extra pin money for her children's tuition fees. She also happens to be the sister of TV celebrity, biker and fisherman Kuniaki Shimizu who she persuaded to appeared in the company's commercials. Book Off now has 860 stores with 600 full time staff and almost ten times that number of part-timers.

yes, baby clothes, not babies. Some of the Book Off stores have "B-kids" selling used babies' goods and clothes. Example are in Tokyo Oimachi, Higashi Chiba and some in Nagoya too.
