Several explosions have been heard outside a US naval air station near Tokyo in what Japanese police suspect was an attack by militants opposed to the Iraq war, a news report said.
Police said the explosions, reported at around 10:40 pm, occurred near the main gate of the base in Ayase, Kanagawa prefecture, south of Tokyo, the Kyodo news agency reported.
