Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-it, a "drive through" in Tokyo--- now that's a rarity. Yes, Tokyo has a few them but it's kind of hard to "Japanese drive through" on a charinko :lol:Image

As far as Gray Poupon, it is great....for me to poop.

They do special dishes to attract the French; we've had blue cheese and goat's cheese salad variations... We also have beer in McDo, is it the same in Japan or the US?
However, what the French like best about McDonald's restaurants, is that they can trash them and not get punished for it, like our favorite farmer, Jose Bove (pronounce Josay Bovay). He pulled one down and was let off in the court. I think he was reliving the Prise de la Bastille, 1789, McDo being as close as anywhere you'd get to with a gardening fork as a weapon.

No beer in Japan but....
McDonald's has plenty weird-o burgers: Tofu Burger, Spicy Fruit Burger, Rice Burger, and the dread Mayonnaise-on-Mayonnaise Burger :crazy3:

Also they've got the cheapest cappuccino in Japan and that steam table full of Szechuan food found at some locations. BUT most important, McDonald's has the most convenient public toilets, "for me to ..."

There's another weird entry on the Makku menu: smiles for 0 yen. I don't remember seeing that on an American Mickey-D's menu.

In fact, I don't remember seeing anyone behind the counter of an American Mickey-D's smile. They're mostly teens with a chip on their shoulder.

Still serving French Fries?

"Fritures francaises"?
:)

I've often wondered what was so french about fries... If anyone has any knowledge on the subject, please educate me and allow my mind to wander on to another modern mystery. Or maybe I've not learnt how to explore the full potential of Google yet. :|

Commom Japanese Kissa menu items:
Vienna Coffee but there's no "Vienna coffee" per se in Vienna (its 'cafe mit schlag').
American Coffee but ya can't find any "American coffee" on an America menu.
Dutch Coffee but there's no "Dutch coffee" (cold drip) to be found in Holland.

...any others??????

Darn if I know, but I bet the IDOS knows. "What is IDOS? The International Dutch Oven Society is a non-profit organization based in Logan, Utah (where it's the offical State Cooking Pot). IDOS is not the confused with JDOSJapanese Dutch Oven Society.

Actually the D.O. is the stuff of legends...
Legend has it that the Dutch oven was actually invented in colonial times by Paul Revere. The oven was then widely manufactured in the New England states, but after traders from Holland bought large numbers for barter with the Indians and frontier settlers, the name "Dutch oven" stuck

"Irish Coffee" seems odd since it was only, invented in the late 1940's near the present site of Shannon Airport but I supect it on the menu in Ireland. Does anybody out there know?

Close but no cigar...

I am sure all of the above is true.. however, my question was a litle more low brow.

What is a Dutch Oven?

dutch oven (n) the process of farting in bed with ones partner
and pulling the covers over said partner's head.

A process with unknown origin or purpose.

With joys like these, it is no wonder that I prefer to stay single..

In Chez Burger King in Australia they have an "Aussie Burger" or is it in Macca's? (I am not very fluent in Fast Food speak.. )

I know it had a flame grilled beef something served with onion, beetroot, salad and BBQ sauce..

An aside - has anybody bought sliced beetroot in a can here? I haven't had any for ages and summer BBQ's are coming up. There is only so much corn a girl can stomach..

Umm,
Is beetroot the same as what they call beets here in the U.S.

Sort of a purple with the consistency of mushy carrots?

French fries were invented by the Belgians, not the French. They're called french fries in the U.S. because the potatoes are cut into lengthwise strips which is also called a frenched-cut.

On another topic, did anyone ever remember the disastrous marketing plan that Burger King had in the U.S. when their sales started to tumble? They tried to remake themselves as a regular restaurant instead of being solely thought of as a fast food restaurant. If you ate there during dinner, they would bring your meal to your table for you. While you waited, you had the luxury of snacking on free popcorn.
