Texas 21, Japan 10

Texas ahead by 11 executions this year! Don't Mess with Texas!

3 death row inmates executed
Three death row inmates were executed at Tokyo and Nagoya detention centers on Thursday, Justice Ministry officials said.
Sources close to the case identified the three as Hifumi Takezawa, 69, and Yoshio Iwamoto, 63, who had been detained at the Tokyo Detention Center, and Kozo Segawa, 60, at the Nagoya Detention Center.
The executions bring the total number of convicts who have been hanged since Justice Minister Jinen Nagase assumed the post in September last year to 10. Death row convicts are executed on orders of the justice minister.
Thursday's executions reduced the number of death row inmates in Japan to 103. (Mainichi)

maybe they were guilty and the punishment fist the crime...or maybe not

but
notice how the Japanese conduct executions when pah-rlia-menta is in recessso

its a clever tactic, kill 'em when the diet is on vacation so there will never be much public debate on the issue

The Japanese government also doesn't allow outsiders to witness the execution, and doesn't announce it to anyone beforehand (even family). Seems like they go through an awful lot to hide a practice that the public theoretically supports. I'm anti-death penalty, but at least in the States executions happen more or less out in the open.

I'm not sure what would be worse for the family of the condemned, "Your son is scheduled to die by lethal injection in a week," or "He was hanged two days ago, here's the body."

.. Unless you drag a black man behind your truck..
Shawn Allen Berry - The driver of the truck, Berry was the most difficult to convict of the three defendants because there was a lack of evidence to suggest that he himself was a racist. He had also claimed that his two companions were entirely responsible for the crime. King testified that it was Berry who cut Byrd's throat before he was tied to the truck, but the court decided that there was little evidence to indicate this.[2] As a result, Berry was spared the death penalty and given a life sentence in prison... - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_William_King
(FWIW, the other two were put to death)..

Ahh, com'on GJ.Just where in the old Testament does it say that you can tie the brother behind your pick-up and drag him till there ain't nothing left but teeth, hair and eyeballs on the pavement?

I was talking about the 'eye for an eye' way of thinking..

The Old Testament only tells you to kill someone by stoning them.. They didn't have trucks back then. ;)

This kind of reminds me of that segment in a Michael Moore show that had Florida and Texas competing to out-execute each other. In one of the scenes they had a scoreboard mounted on a truck as if it were a basketball game or something.
His [Brendan Behan's] last words were to several nuns standing over his bed, "God bless you, may your sons all be bishops."
