2 Middle School Girls Hit by Truck, Killed

Those girls must've been huge!Two middle school students on their way to school died after being hit by a truck Friday morning in Kyotango, Kyoto Prefecture, police said.
According to the police, the accident occurred about 6:55 a.m. on National Highway Route 312. Mai Obata, 14, and Ayuka Konishi, 13, both second-year students at a local middle school, died about two hours later.
The police said the girls were hit while they were riding bicycles along the highway when the truck crossed over the center line from the opposite lane.
Daisuke Kawabata, 22, who drove the truck owned by a packaging company in Higashi-Osaka, Osaka Prefecture, told the police he was looking at a map while driving. Police plan to arrest Kawabata, who suffered leg injuries and is being treated at a hospital, on suspicion of professional negligence resulting in death.
