Toy Company In Taiwan/China Dispute

Postby Mulboyne » Thu Jan 10, 2008 6:33 pm

[floatl]Image[/floatl]AFP: Japanese globe toy recalled over Taiwan row
An educational globe toy portraying Taiwan as a part of China at the insistence of Beijing is to be withdrawn, the Japanese firm that makes it said Thursday. The talking "Smart Globe," aimed at Japanese children, gives information about countries when they are touched. The 29,400-yen globe, manufactured in China by Japan's Gakken Toys Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Gakken Co. Ltd., proved to be popular, with the first batch of 10,000 quickly selling out after its release last year. The globe shows "Taiwan Island" and says that it is "the People's Republic of China," the official name of communist mainland China, which claims the island. Gakken said it received complaints and apologised for its "inappropriate expression and display" on the globe. "We deeply apologise for causing a tremendous nuisance," the company said in a statement...A Gakken spokesman said the company had initially planned simply to display "Taiwan," as is standard in Japanese school textbooks, but Beijing intervened. "The place of production was China," he said. "The Chinese government's stance was that we could not export unless we changed the expression"...more...

As long as it dont contain that toxic lead paint

Got some news for the braindead, paranoid sinophobes....forget the propaganda from shitheads like Richard Gere. The real truth is that Taiwan IS PART OF CHINA. The are essentially the same people only divided by ideology
The USA won't block reunification, in fact the United States welcomes it but it wants this unifying process to happen democratically not by military means or by means of a covert assassination or invasion from Beijing - if this happens Uncle Sam will rise to Taiwan's defense otherwise it doesn't really give a flying fuck on the issue and will continue doing trade with the commies.
US Republicans have continued to support Nixon's One-China policy and most Taiwanese politicians think their government has claim to rule in Beijing, they view the communists as a bunch of hijackers after they lost the civil war in 1950.
Ultra-Nationalist dreamers like Shintaro INC don't really understand the issues in Japan's backyard, they only go around raising the Taiwan issue or say 'China should be broken in pieces' to piss of the Chinese. Japan getting eclipsed by China is this century's inevitable event

Although Taiwan is most pro-Japanese "coutnry" in the world, gradually we Japanese need to become more pragmatic. Personally I believe Japan and China can understand each other if the two talk together in the bottom of heart. Korea is madness who never can understand the interest of our side but China is mafia who can little understand it. We need 1.2 billion China, not 20million Taiwan.

Newsflash dude... Taiwan has its own currency, its own military, its own customs and immigration controls, PRC laws have no authority within Taiwanese boundaries, and PRC officials cannot enter without its explicit permission. Does that sound like being part of the same country to you? And if you say that they are the same country because they are 'essentially the same people only divided by ideology,' would you say that South Korea is part of North Korea too?

Sorry for the belligerent tone but I was so shocked by your ignorant statement that I registered specifically to reply.

Interesting.

I guess Japan's school history textbooks will never be printed in China.
