A military attache at the Japanese Embassy in Beijing was questioned by Chinese public security authorities after they caught him entering a massage parlor of dubious repute in the Chinese capital earlier this month, it was learned Wednesday. The authorities questioning reportedly finished the same day. The embassy has in recent years prohibited employees from going to such places that offer sexual services, for fears over personal safety. The attache admitted to the Foreign Ministry that he went to the parlor, but reportedly denied "any indecent actions." In May 2004, an official at the Japanese Consulate General in Shanghai committed suicide, leaving a note saying he had been blackmailed into supplying secret information by a Chinese intelligence agent over his relationship with a Chinese woman.
