Warning on Noka Chocolate at Tokyo Midtown

Postby gkanai » Sun Feb 24, 2008 10:53 pm

For those of you who shop at Tokyo Midtown, let me warn you against the absolutely silly prices at Noka Chocolate.

Dallasfood.org did a long (11-part) and detailed expose on Noka Chocolate, their claims, and it's clear that the chocolate is not worth what they charge and Tokyo Midtown did not do any due-diligence before selecting this chocolate marketing company. The most recent news from DallasFood.org is how Noka is using Nikkei's US English newspaper to make claims in Japan that are clearly misleading: Noka and the Nikkei.

Rich Japanese customers don't know any better, sadly.

I see nothing wrong with the strategy but spoken like a true person with no money, nonetheless. You can make the same argument for anything that is luxury. Sometimes the snob appeal is worth a great deal of money and it has nothing to do with the quality of the product. Why is Petrus or Le Pin worth $2,000 a bottle? Are they 50 to 100 times better than other wines? No.

I've never been there or had their chocolates but I do enjoy the confections and chocolates from Le Chocolat de H in Roppongi Hills, on Keyakizaki-dori. Good stuff.

What? People with more money than brains are being duped into buying overpriced products by hype and false advertising? That is unpossible.

If you got the folding stuff in your pocket, you can afford to be a snob. $2,000.00 dollars a bottle to certain people, may be no different to them than $2.00 is to you.

It depends on your tax bracket!
